A wonderful collection relating to William Frederick Aubrey Snell born 27th November 1898.

he RAF was formed on 1st April 1918 by merging the Royal Flying Corps (RFC) and Royal Naval Air Service (RNAS). His temporary commission, signed by King George V (see top left of commission scroll) was granted on 15th May 1918 so Snell was truly one of the first Officers commissioned into the RAF, just over a month after formation.

The WW1 temporary commission scroll comes along with a photograph from his time in the RAF Volunteer Reserves during WW2 and his identity card showing that he was part of the Casualty Services team in the Air Raid Precaution department in Guildford, Surrey in 1943.

A great and unique collection including his photograph, the fact that he was one of the very first commissioned officers into the RAF and his WW2 service.
