1800-1880 Bosun's Persuader (Napoleonic to Victorian era)

£195.00Price
Quantity

A beautiful example of a Bosun's persuader. UK sales only and 18+ only (proof required)

Very recognizable flexible shaft with one small and one larger weighted ends (lead or iron) covered in tarred macrame string. Designed to be used to maintain discipline amongst unruly crews aboard a variety of vessels at the time.

The shaft is made of Baleen whale bone which, when heated and twisted, provides and incredibly durable and flexible shaft that will not break upon impact. If anyone is worried about this, it falls outside any prohibitions as baleen is specifically excluded as it is not true bone or teeth (rather it is essentially keratin) , and is a 'worked antique' made into a tool and substantially altered from its natural state, as well as being manufactured well before June 1st 1947.

A really special piece of history, uniquely presented, retaining it's cord wrist lanyard to the centre.
