1oz/36mm diameter differentiates it from a similarly designed Twopence which is 2oz/41mm in diameter.

Nicknamed the cartwheel penny because if its large size and broad, raised rims where the inscriptions are punched into the metal.

Only officially issued in 1797 and struck at Matthew Boulton's Soho Mint in Birmingham.

A very collectible coin, especially in such good condition. These coins were often used as shop weights and were easily dented because of their soft, pure copper composition hence ones with few dents command a premium. Detailing is great (shield, olive branch, raised rims unmarred). We're not coin experts but the untrained eye can recognise this as an excellent piece.
